I am new to the forum here, just getting started back into woodworking. I have inherited several tools from my grandfather, among them several Disston and Atkins saws, which I want to clean up and put back into use. I was at the flea market yesterday and bought an Atkins saw set, marked "Sept 15, 1908" on the inside of one of the handles. I paid a grand total of $1 for it, it appears to be completely functional, but I can't seem to find any other info on this tool. It looks to be very similar in form and function to the Stanley 42. Anybody have any additional information? I will most likely buy a couple of junk saws to get familiar with the sharpening/setting process before I touch my grandfather's saws.
Thanks for any info you care to share!
Chris

Thanks Glenn! That's more info than I had before! That is the exact one that I have. There MIGHT be some nickling left on it, underneath all the grunge. I haven't touched it yet for cleaning, wanted to find out what I had before I touched anything. Even with the model # etc I am still not getting any good hits on Google. Interesting... Any other info floating around there somewhere?
Chris
