Working out in the garage-a-shop tonight, I got ate up by mosquitos, as I had the back roll-up door open for fresh air. That got me to thinking about my next shop. I would like to incorporate screening for large openings like garage doors or sliding barn-type doors.

I've seen those that roll-out sideways and stay together via magnets in the middle, like a white window shade on edge. Is this the kind I want?

Anybody do this? Any brands to recommend? Other than dust accumulation, any other woodshop-related considerations you've found?

Thanks, Todd

I've been involved with two installations of those roll-sideways screens on entry doors. I haven't been very impressed. Both of them pop off their rails with only the slightest provocation. (And replacing them is a hassle.) They don't have frames, so people tend to not notice them, and they walk into them. The good thing about them is that they can stow in small spaces. But if I had the space to put in a regular screen door, I'd do that instead.

I've looked into garage door screens for my shop roll up doors. There are plenty of vendors on the web that make screens for large openings. Here are a few sites, just from a quick search:

You can spend a lot or less than a couple of hundred bucks for a system, depending on how automated you want it to be.
