This is what he was making. Sold for about 20 dollars USD. I bought one. I was rapt. Couldn't leave. I watched him make about 30 of them. My wife was, "Come on!! We have to go."

Sorry about all the posts. I can't seem to figure out how to put it all on one post. My son took all these pics. I don't know what kind of wood it is but the ones in the back of the third pic is the finished product of the blank in the first pic. The nubs on the outside of the main stem went all the way through the piece. He would then dip them in some sort of clear liquid, let them dry, drill a hole and put red strings on it. Chinese good luck charm.
