Finished this today. Every time I turn walnut I'm reminded of how it seems more difficult than the lighter colored woods to get a good final surface. Guess the brown really shows everything.

Looks great Jeremy! The inlay looks good with the dark walnut and it looks like you got a very nice surface!

Great size and shape Jeremy! The malachite sets off well. If you get the chance...pick up some red coral...just another angle!

Great looking bowl. I like the inlace. What finish do you have on it? I've not done any inlace work myself but it looks really good. Was it hard to do?

Thanks everyone. Donny, it's actually crushed malachite so it is pretty "hard" :) But really it's just a matter of patience to get it sanded down to level initially. After that it sands up through the grits without much trouble. I haven't tried inlace either, but I do have a can of it waiting in the wings. I think I'll try it on some wormy pecan, since I can't imagine attempting actual stone with that volume of holiness.

Oh yeah, the finish. It's sanded to 220, then wet sanded BLO and 320 to fill pores. After that I buffed it with clean paper towels until they didn't come away with junk on them anymore.

Th malachite adds just enough color to make this a beautiful bowl!
