This is probally a long shot but: I am hoping Dominic reads this board.

I found this picture (I think it says" Dominic's workshop on the sign) and had a question about the dovetails:

Why did you build the drawer backwards & any you had any problems with it?

Thanks,

Brian, you'll want to get in touch with Blacky's Boy over on Woodnet. He's the Dominic you seek...

Oooooh, that's that guy. He sells saw plates and scrapers. His email address is listed on his website.

So Dominic Greco sounds like the guy you want. Try sending him a PM?

Be sure to mention to him that you particularly like his backwards dovetails on the drawers! ;) Dominic is a great guy and will be glad to share information.

So this is an extension of the "which way should the tails go" thread? :D

This is not a which way to do the dovetail go thread... given the force that a drawerfront see, to me they are backwards but I thought that it looked neat and was wondering if he's had an issues.

Thanks for you help guys.

small draws, modern glues = no problem.

Not the traditional way to do it, and I suppose eventually it could work it's way loose if stored in an evironment where wood movement reeks havoc on it; for the foreseeable future, if you're pulling the drawers fronts off of those drawers, there would be more wrong than the orientation of the dovetails!

And for what it's worth - if you haven't contacted Dominic - if you search for "dominic greco tool cabinet dovetail direction" you'll find a thread over on Woodcentral (linking other forums here is still verboten, right?) in the first links of Google results, titled something like "and even more tool cabinet progress"; it was a simple mistake, not a design decision. Sounds like he was using a router jig.

In that woodcentral thread, it's brought up that if fingerjoints would work in the application (they certainly would) there's really no problem with the tails oriented like this. Still not the right way to do it, I suppose, and I wouldn't do it on anything that was going to see a lot of load.
