I turned this on Thursday from a green mimosa blank. This is the first time I've turned mimosa and it seems to be pretty prone to tear out, but with light finish cuts and plenty of sanding I ended up with a nice surface.

It's 7 1/2" x 2 1/2" and finished with antique oil.

Really nice Kathy. I love turning mimosa. I get a lot of it from Mike Smith.

Looks just wonderful to me and I wish I had a dollar for each of the mimosa I have killed. They are a unwanted tree around here because of the way they spread. Wish I had left a few now! :(

Pleasing form Kathy. You are giving that lathe a workout. I like the look of the mimosa.

Nice form - and I really like the look of the wood. Soft color and a nice wavy grain pattern. You should be happy with this one!

Nice job Kathy. I have some nice big chunks of mimosia in the shop waiting its turn on the lathe.

Really nice bowl girl. One of my favorite woods--have turned vases up to 18" deep. The older/larger trees often have darker wood and readily pops with oil under a film finish. Try turning it green to final size to handle the tearout. I turn to final and endseal the outside only and it seems to never move or split. Old forester
