I turned this on Friday night. I had a chunk of kiln dried cherry that I ripped in half to get 2 3"x3"x6" spindle blanks.
I turned a tenon on one of the blanks, and then turned a sphere 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" leaving the bottom for support. I hollowed it through a 3/8" hole using my allen wrench tools.

The icicle and topper are goncalo alves (from a pen blank). The color is almost a perfect match with cherry. I thought about dyeing it black but the decided to just go natural with the hole piece.
Finials are definitely not my strong point, so I thought I'd try one a little bit different.

It's 7 1/2" tall x 2 1/4", finished with antique oil. I may add some coats of lacquer to gloss it up.

Looking good, will look nice on a Christmas tree. I think finials take some practice but you are well on your way.

These look great, Kathy. You did a great job on the spheres. You can't beat allen wrenches for hollowing through small holes.

Looks good Kathy! When it comes to ornaments - especially the finials - everything works! I really like the natural color of these!
