I'm toying with the idea of building a low cabinet & internal TV lift as a solution to an in-front-of-a-window location issue. I think I've seen the lifts in the back of some magazine, can probably find some using Google & eBay, etc but maybe someone here has already BTDT (been there, done that)?

That's a clever idea. I've seen those lifts, and thought they're just silly bling. But your idea -- covering the window with the TV only when you're watching -- is a really good one.

Auton is pretty much the name in TV lifts.

That's a Wood Technology 750 and is available direct for under $500, including shipping. It's a front-runner in my search but I still think there's some fat that could be trimmed. I'm not opposed to fabricating something using a 12V or 120V winch (got both), vehicle window lift, pneumatic lift, pop-up type lift arms, etc. Often these projects end up costing more in time, gas or shipping than just buying the darn thing complete :-\

One of the problems I'm having with this project is I get TOO MANY hits on Google and it's hard to separate out the real DIY hits from those where mounting the TV to the lift is considered "DIY" :D
