I've been wanting wings for my miter saw for a long time but never could come up with a good way to mount them. For a variety of reasons I finally broke down and bought a Kapex this week. While Festool offers wings, I found out that I could actually make my own quite easily. I'm really happy with the results. I may replace the Ridgid stand sooner or later, but however I go, I can easel move them to any other stand since all the stand does is hold up the far ends--and I could easily a folding leg too. A lot of ideas for these came from a friends similar wings, with some refinements in the clamps.

Clamps engaged. A piece of machined UHMW fits into the v-grooves on the saw for locators.

Nice work Matt.
I think I have another project to add to my list for this winter.

Looks good, can you slide the saw fences apart enough to allow full range of compound cuts with the wings in place or is the plan to just take the fences off for those cuts?

I would have to take it off for compound angle cuts. The thought did cross my mind, but then I also realized that I can't even recall EVER making a compound cut :D.

The Kreg kit is nice, but the quick stop (the curved one) has a little more flex than I'd like. When are companies going to learn that soft plastic doesn't belong in precision components? I may do some reengineering there and change out the plastic sleeves for some brass.

I've had too many big crown installs not to consider the compound cut routine.:)
