To offer much of a comment it would be helpful to know at what price they are being offered.

Some of them look like they were used for sharpening engraving tools and have developed some deep valleys.

The price asked is $5 for each individual stone and $5 for the three stones pictured together

The single stones are 6.5 ins wide x 2.6 ins x 1.5 ins high (165mm wide x 65mm deep x 40mm high) and (8 ins in length x 4.5 ins and 1.6 ins high( )205mm in length x 110 mm width and 40mm high

The 3 stones with grooves in are (4 ins long and 1.3 ins wide)105mm in length x 32mm wide price $5 for the three

The last one is a pike translucent. They called them hard arkansas back then, but that one and every one I've seen is equivalent to a current hard translucent. I would take my chances with the other big single stone, it's only 5 bucks. It could be a chinese slate stone, an american or welsh slate, or some sort of carborundum hone, but it's big and it might turn out to be a dandy.

The three little ones, it'd depend on whether you wanted some small carborundum stones to ruin with fishhooks or something. You can bet the pike stone is as good as any arkansas stones sold by anyone today.

The last one, the pike, to me is the only one worthwhile.

I've run across stones like that with valleys ground into them. Often, the other side was kept fairly flat. Any idea of the condition of the other side? For 5 bucks a pop, I'd certainly bite, and if I didn't like 'em, turn them around on the Ebay.

The grooved up stones I would not buy. They are cheap stones to begin with, and are very messed up. Get the Pike and the other stone that David suggests is a slate.
