Need a Fountain Fill Expert

Is there any way to invert a fountain fill? I have a pattern composed of numerous fountain fills and I want to engrave a black painted piece of acrylic so I need to invert it.......but it won't........

Can you convert to gray scale and then invert or does that defeat your effort.
