I've been on a hollowing kick lately. Here's some of the pieces I've finished recently.
244154
Figured Eucalyptus. I salvaged this piece out of a local firewood lot. It's not really a burl, just heavily figured with sap pocket.
This one and the next 2 below were all hollowed through the bottom and the plugged with a piece of the same blank that was carefully matched.
244153
Figured Myrtle and Maple Burl. Also hollowed through the bottom and plugged. If it's done right the plug is nearly invisible.
244155
Influenced by the in-curve shape of the Myrtle piece above I decided I wanted to do a doughnut shape. It took me quite a while to figure out how to get this piece done but I'm thrilled with the results. The wood is red streaked Box Elder.
244156
Alternate view. This shows why it was a little more difficult than a normal hollow form. The top and bottom profiles are completely reversible .
Comments & critiques welcome.
