Nice catch. Its girth looks larger than most of that length. You caught it on a beautiful pier. Were you fishing off the end? How long was the battle? Were they running in a school? Bait or metal? Inquiring minds want to know.

Wish I could be down there after Sandy go by, should be great fishing.

yes, i was fishing off the end. i fought the fish about 10 to 15 minutes, i do not know if the drum were schooling, there were 5 caught that day, but none were caught at the same time.
i was fishing eight and bait, a fish head. i have a heaver, but i do not cast it well. i caught it on a whuppin stick Magnum from cabela's
rodwsm7mc-2 7 foot action medium, line wt. 10 to 50 lbs. i was using 17 lb line with 80 lb. shocker
the reel was 6500 C3Ct mag aba-garcia ---- green sides, does not have a clicker, but pay attention or have good friends, the bunch that was fishing the end were good people, and everbody helped everbody, plenty of people helped use the net to pull the fish up
a tip i learned while i was fishing that week was to make the shocker long enough to reach the water from the pier and 50 lb shocker is plenty

Great fish Charlie! Caught my first red drum this fall. Nothing like yours though it still tasted good!
