Came in the mail. Seems to be almost all steel, no cast iron. 243978243979 Just a little rusty. Iron is Stamped as a "SHELTON" and "PATENT PEND". Got to cleaning on this little "treasure"..243980243981243982243984looking just a smidge better?? Seems to be a clone of either a Millers Falls, or a Stanley #118. Just a small $2 plane....

Shelton planes are a thing all their own. They are generally (always?) stamped material. Let us know how it performs once you get it up and running, maybe it'll surprise us.

(avoid the bench planes made by shelton if you run across any of them, though).

Fun, yes, but not what I'm after on this project. Just need a simple little "apron plane" for all these sticky old wood doors. The kind of plane that doesn't mind a little paint on the wood. Most times, it will get used with the door still on the hinges, doing test fits. IF I need a block to fine tune a "Fine Wood Working" project, this won't be it, I have others for that type of work..

Got things almost cleaned up, waiting on the paint to arrive. Played around with a pine 1x1 on the Kitchen's countertop...244384244385Other than a quick grind to straighten the iron's edge (Cambered??) not much in the way of sharpening. Just a $2 plane....

I'd be happy at $2.00 for that. Nice job on cleaning it up and putting it back to work.

Thanks for posting the pictures.

They looked familiar so I went out to my shop.

I have the same plane that I got from a neighbor. Looks like I need to get mine cleaned up now.

Got any paint left over? ;-)
