this is a 1/2 dia bit 3.5 long smooth cut with a high feed rate
might try to raise the feed a bit more

Why did you try melamine?

i find melamine shows chipping on poor tolling and the particle core is tough stuff ,mind you a good 1 inch thick maple would have proved a point

i will take some photos ,right now i am tied up re-doing a storage area taking back some shop space ,heating it and making it machine useable
