Ok, I'm trying to get the proper name for 1/4" sheeting (ply or mdf) that has a white finish on 1 or 2 sides. You'll normally see this type of material as shelves in kitchen cabinetry.

What is the proper name for this?

It is also sometimes called "whiteboard" for dry erase use or wall board in bath or kitchen. I had to buy some 4'x8' x 1/4" sheets for my wife to use in class room when she was teaching about 10 years ago.
