Hi All,
I thought I would show a project from beginning to end. Here are some of the pics of the design, rough lumber to be used and it being cut and shaped into final pieces. I'm not done with it yet but here it is from the start.

Bandsaw set up to make tenons. (w/ test piece)

both the shoulder cuts and mortises are cut using tablesaw crosscut sled and a stop block. Very easy and accurate way to cut them. The bandsaw is also used to cut the tenons because the boards are too long to stand on end with the sled. The legs even at 50" are still managable with the sled but I wouldn't go any longer w/out making a tall auxillary fence.

headboard leg w/ mortise. After cutting away all the material w/ the TS I clean up the bottom with a chisel.

All legs are now ready for the bottom mortises to be cut along with the groove that will hold the maple panels.

Anyway that's as far as I got so I will keep you up to date when I do more. I hope you liked it.

Very cool, John. I will be attempting something similar (a bed, anyway) soon. I just need to make my assembly bench top this week, then....... I'm thinking of playing with Lyptus.

John,

Can't wait to see the final product. Exactly how did you shape those legs using a pattern & the bit in the picture? Did you start with a bit with the bearing at the other end, and then switch to that bit for a second pass?
