I have - and very frequently use - an old Stanley 97 marking gauge. The cutting wheel is still ok but I would consider replacing it if I know which one to replace it with.
Here is what I think: the rod is 5/16 in diameter - the same as many other currently available marking gauges. The wheel makes up the first 1/8 inch of the rod's measurement. One issue that I might have is that the countersink in the wheel may not match the one of the screw that holds the wheel in place. Getting a screw that matches a new marking wheel from a current manufacturer should not be hard, but I think the Stanley fine thread screw on the #97 might be an unusual, hard to find thread.

Has anyone replaced the marking wheel on a Stanley 97 with a modern one? What did you use to replace the old wheel?
