I had every intention of spending some time with my chainsaw after work, cutting up some blanks to take to our club meeting on Saturday, but my chainsaw had other ideas. Time for a tune-up kit and some fresh gas.
Since I couldn't cut up any logs, I was forced to find a blank to throw on the lathe :D.

This is a little sycamore bowl turned from a blank that I found hiding out in a box.
As said in another thread, sycamore and silky oak are very similar. In fact it would be fairly easy to mistake one for the other.
The sycamore had a little more color variation and the lace pattern is a little less pronounced (maybe due to a little bit tighter grain). The sycamore cut a little easier but it was greener than the silky oak, it also sanded easier even though it was green.

Just a basic user bowl. 8" x 2" finished with walnut oil.

Nice little bowl. Chainsaws can become obstinant at times!

Great looking bowls. After finishing with oil do you buff them out?

Nice looking bowl Kathy! I like the color variations in the wood! Also like the softened rim! Hope your chainsaw gets healed quickly!!
