Although I have made four poster beds for all the kids, the LOML still wanting me to build a pencil post bed for her. I would appreciated a proven source for plans for a king size pencil post bed, and tips on cutting the long tapered posts. I have the usual tooling, left tilt Jet xacta, mortising machine, planer, sanders etc, just have shied away from this particular project because of the long tapers. And truth be known, I do not personnally like the pencil post style of bed, however, I realize that I am male, and therefore do not have the choice of furniture that is to be made for the house.

Thanks for the help

Carl

Cutting the post may be the least of your worries for this bed. It's very hard to build a poster style bed in a King sized format where the post seemed to even remotely relate to each other. You may want to draw this bed to prove out the design before you commit much time to the post process.
