I'm trying to read different threads on here to learn but I keep getting hung up with all the abbreviations and not getting certain info from the replies. For example, on another thread talking about acclimation of wood to its environment, humidity, and other things I saw the abbreviation MC and I have no idea what that meant. Is there a list somewhere on here that will explain it??

Duane, I have the the same problem. Most of the time I figure it out, but "YMMV" had me completly stumped. I couldn't stand it anymore and finally googled it this morning. YMMV = "your mileage may vary".

I get even more confused when only tool model numbers are referred to, e.g., "should I get the GO690 or the 36L336".

Bruce, could you make the post with the link in it a "sticky" somewhere so do not have to search for it ???

This is incorrect from the list: FUBAR - Fouled Up But All Right

Correct definition is "Fouled Up Beyond All Recognition"

Scott, even that is a sanitized version of the original.

Wait a minute...you mean those abbreviations actually mean something ? I always thought they were typos and just glossed over them. Thanks men, this sheds a lot of light for me now.

Well, WC seems to add a whole dimension to the abbrev. thing. Why would WC stand for Tungsten Carbide?

I think Tungsten is Wolfrom in German.

I suspect because tungsten was originally called wolfram, but I don't know for sure.

I always thought WC stood for Water Closet. But I suppose context has to be considered too!

Do you remember Jack Paar getting in trouble on late night TV for even daring to say the initials WC? I do.

Common explanation is that Tungsten was discovered in the Wolfram Valley. Thus W is the symbol for the element Tungsten.

Whenever I get stumped by some acronym, on any subject I go to acronymfinder.com

Might find more stuff than you want, but then again, some of the abbreviations can be quite a pain to figure out. The one I kept getting stuck on and have only seen it here is DAMHIKT.

If you do a Google search with the keyword "define:" at the beginning, Google will know that you're looking for a definition of what follows. This is an example of searching for define: damhikt (https://www.google.com/#hl=en&sclient=psy-ab&q=define:+damhikt&oq=define:+damhikt&gs_l=hp.3..0i22l2.2847.16290.0.16582.21.18.3.0.0.0 .530.3000.4j10j3j5-1.18.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.1.ZX0bva9N0LE&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=d276ca8c9d35acfa&bpcl=35277026&biw=1280&bih=611)
