Disassemble Dewalt 705 miter saw

I have a need to remove the pivot arm from the base of a model 705 type 5 chop saw. I have loosened the set screws and started to drive the pivot pin out. I stopped due to concern that there is quite a load on the torsion spring, and I am concerned that the spring might fly out in any direction as the pin is driven out. Does anyone have any experience/recommendations with this disassembly?
