Went to the shop today without any plans for a specific piece. When I got inside I just happened to see the other half of the ash log that I turned the blue ash hf from last week. So I thought, what the heck and proceeded to turn it to a cylinder.
Once I had it to a cylinder, I decided to go with a lidded box to go with the little hf.
It's 5 1/4" x 4 1/4", dyed with the same turquoise dye, sealed with sanding sealer and then finished with a few coats of lacquer.
Incuded pics of the top and bottom to show how well that log held up. Pith is in the center and there was absolutely no checking or cracking in the log and the log was dry.

Box is neat. Like how the trees rings are positioned on the top. Glad you didn't get any checking.

Fantastic combo! Can't decide which I like best, I think they are better as a pair than apart.

Very nice color. I really like the way the blue brings out the grain. Do you have issues with the wood dye becoming blotchy. Your color on these pieces are consistent. I have never used dye before.

Everytime I see you post something with the outside colored and the inside natural I think I need to try that. Very nice!
