CA glue ?

I've read where some of you use CA glue on cracks and such. Is it some kind of super glue? Is there a particular kind that is best for woodworking?

It's tha same basic stuff that wal mart sells.

It is availble in thin, medium, and thick.

It is MUCH cheaper at a woodworking place. And in much larger bottles.

Also, get some accellerator.

Ernie there is a member here who sells CA in bulk--you can find him under the topic of Freedom Pens his name is Daniel Yourdon----this will save you a bunch. Daniel offers this to turners on several sites this in not just for Freedom Pens. For filling cracks you will want thick CA. It comes in thin--medium--and thick.
For bowls I also use two part epoxy---the kind that dries in 5 minutes.

CA glue is used for several things in my shop. For filling a 23 ga. pin nailer hole, for example, just put a drop of CA on the hole, and sant with 320 till it is dry. The dust form the sanding will mix with the glue, which dries in about 20-30 seconds, and the hole is gone. If you are carving, and get a piece of wayward grain and thus a small piece splits off, stop and CA glue it back, and keep on carving.

One other warning for CA, don't breath the fumes too much! DAMHIKT but it will make you very light headed!! I was using it to finish a pen w/o the dust collector running. The fumes built up and Jeff was VERY light headed :)

I have managed to mend quite a few cracks by wetting the wood to swell the crack closed again and then coating it with CA(super glue) if the crack is big enough drip some ca into the crack then wet it and coat it again with a layer of CA. Some of the cracks I have fixed like this are almost undetectable now.

I also build R/C aircraft where CA has become the primary glue. Some people have become sensitized to it so use it carefully. Hobby shops carry "odorless" CA but it is very expensive $13/oz. in this area.
