Did I get a good deal? Seems to work fine but this thing sure is loud! After I got it home, I noticed that the fence appears to be bent..I could probably just replace it with some extruded aluminum from 80/20. Needs to be cleaned up and rust removed. Moving parts are very squeaky. One of the knives has a 1/16th nick it in so I may have to replace them. The controls are not very fine...one turn of the handle lowers the infeed table about 1/16. I've never owned a jointer but that seems like a lot.

It opens up and becomes a planer. I have no idea what a molder is/does

You can put short blades into the cutter head that are much taller than regular planer knives. They are ground into contours for making various moldings, like chair rail moldings, moldings for around doors, etc. Possibly Belsaw molding knives would fit the head. But,unless you plan to make lots of moldings,it wouldn't be worth it. Best just put in straight jointer type knives and do small thickness planing with it as well as using the jointer.

It sure looks flimsy!! Be careful.

Its a Belsaw 804/684. Try this link http://www.belsaw.com/PLpage1.html

You can order knives, etc from Belsaw. The link also has the manual.

yeah so the fence is toast I think. Its slightly bent and wiggles back and forth a little. Hopefully I can replace it and be up and running.

I saw this posted on another forum "As long as the fence is 90 degrees to the table along its length, you do not need to worry about its straightness... "

Can anyone confirm this?

If the bow was still 90 to the bed you could be OK still - kind of late and I may not be thinking of everything hence the "could" :) I would face joint, plane the opposite face, and edge joint on a RT a nice hardwood thick board you could use a reference edge for your fence. Get a couple of those clamps rockler sells for sacrifical fence boards for tablesaws to attach it to your jointer fence.

Not all 8020 is perfectly flat so be careful if you use it. That short a length you may not have issues though. Again a quick piece of maple woul fit the bill.

That or just use it as a moulder - it was $50!!

Found the identical saw all cleaned up with a Belsaw badge for $750!! Gotta figure out how to pull this Craftsman logo off!
