GAVEL and Block

Hello, I have been asked to make a Gavel & Hitting Block for a
Town Moderator. are there any ratios or rules of thumb that I
should know. Any info or photos would be appreciated.

That is an excellent tutorial. I mostly followed it when I made one for the club. I did not have a piece of stock quite as long as I needed for the handle, so my handle is short at 8" if I recall correctly. I did not make a block for it.
