American Sweet Gum Hollow Form. Around 5" (14cm) tall. Turned green. Finished with wipe on polyurethane.

That's a stunner. The high gloss finish looks like a mirror. Perfect classic shape, too.

Lovely form and finish....hard to tell the size if you hadn't mentioned it...the test of a great form.

Thanks everyone. I turn mostly domestic hardwoods and have a bit of a love / hate relationship with Sweet gum. It is lovely, but moves more than anything else I turn, and soaks up finish like a sponge so it takes a lot of coats to get to the point where it starts to build up a film. The extra work involved with Sweet gum is generally worth the effort though.

Eric, that came out very nicely. What a finish too! A friend of mine and I were talking yesterday about turning sweetgum, and haven't yet. I have a chunk of a log that's been sitting ...err, aging to perfection, for a couple years now. I'm about ready to try it.
