I was reading another thread about changing the paper on a drum sander .. I was fortunate to pick up a used Felder Edge Sander / spindle sander ..

I wanted to share how clever the designer was in his method for changing the paper .. I believe the machine is actually made by ACM ,.. who makes the bandsaws ..

Anyway .

When I first saw it, I thought it was a bit cheezy .. The main spindle is solid steel, very heavy ... but its a small set up ..

There are 3 spindles. Small, medium and large .. You use drum sander paper and these 2 piece sleeves.. Cut a short piece and wrap .. insert the center sleeve and the paper is tightened as you turn it .. its really clever .. ( the center piece is not round, its offset so as you turn, it gets tighter and tighter .. clever ..

So basically you have a roll of 80 grit, 120 and 150 paper.. and you have all the sizes in all the grits. Changing the paper is a 2 minute job if I can find the allen key .. lol ..

I think its another example of how clever people can be when designing stuff .. its really just a drum sander but vertical, but it works ..

The table is small and the drum is short .. but its surprising how handy it is .. its no antique oliver, but it takes zero floor space because its part of another tool ..

Oh... and the coolest part is that the table is hollow and actually has built in dust collection, all around the drum .. it actually works amazingly well.... You can watch the dust get sucked into the slot in the table ..

Nice sander, Rick! My old SCM is very similar, but I have not been able to find metric sanding drums for it. Wish I had that system!
