I'm planning on refinishing this door, but I'm clueless when it comes to species of woods.

Looks pretty close grained. Looks stained?
And well made, so I will take a risk and say the original builder would know an appropriate material for a door.
Maybe one of the mahogany species?
(otherwise I would guess beech with a stain on it, but it's still pretty dark even where it's pulled back from a trim piece)
Can you get any end grain shots?

I'll try to get some end grain shots. It's actually at my MIL's house an hour away from where I live.
While I haven't taken it off of its hinges yet, it seems like it has a good weight to it.

Looks like mahogany. Mahogany has interlocked grain, which causes a "striped" effect from the way the light is reflected from the different angles of the wood cells in different growth rings. It was also commonly used for doors.

Sun and water bleached Mahogany is my educated guess.
