I'm thinking about getting rid of my transitionals and getting a number 6. Problem is, I don't know if I shoould get a 606c and have it refurbed or get a Lee Valley number 6. I love the features of the LV, but theres just something about old tools. Anyway, how much should I expect to pay for a 606 c?

I was just watching a pair of sort of crappy ones on ebay go for $165 and $208. Way too much for what I'd spend on them.

A 606-C is a corrugated sole Stanley Bedrock, which will typically sell in excess of $150 or so. You should be able get a 6-C, a corrugated Stanley Bailey for $50-60 or so without having to look too hard. We had a discussion last week here about the relative merits of the Bedrocks vs. the Baileys that you might take a look at.

Roger,
Thanks for pointing that out. I was talking about a Bedrock number 6(606). I'm not interested in the normal Stanley's.

um, how much?

got pics?

:D

I picked up a nice Stanley #6 in recent month for less than $25 {including shipping}. The trick is to find the listings without a picture and poorly worded descriptions, and view the pictures veeeerrry carefully.

There was one coming up today with an opening bid of ~$15 and $19 shipping that no one is bidding on cause the description says its 134 years old...but is clearly an early WWII vintage {with rosewood, brass adjuster}. Might be able to persuade the seller in reducing the shipping to a flat rate container. Still at $35...
