I'll be darned if I know what to call them. They're sort of like shock absorbers.

anywho, I have a pinnacle M25 (same as GCC) and they no longer hold the lid up.

Anyone know what they're called and where I might find (cheap) replacements?

Thanks
~Joe

They are called lift struts (http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&node=15684181&keywords=lift+struts&tag=googhydr-20&hvadid=4229597949&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=18302918571331633092&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&ref=pd_sl_937u1s55fz_e).

Try auto shops for these , used for trunk lids , hatchback hold ups ..also called "gas struts"

Also check out for a strut re-gas service, they can repair/recon your struts for a fraction of the cost of replacing new. Also with these services they can presurize the struts to suit your lid so it opens itself after you lift passed a certain point.

Try a place that sells truck caps, I got a set to replace some for a tool box. Take one with you as they have many sizes and weight limits.

This company makes what you want. I bought replacements from them several years ago when I had a Universal.

Joe, you can even try eBay. (Search gas springs, gas struts) I bought new OEM gas springs many years ago (my seller has since disappeared) but there may be others. You probably need something in the range of 10-20 lbs. Take measurements off the old one and see if you can match it up. You might be able to move the old ends (ball ends) to the new struts if the thread is the same. It is a bit of a hassle though to find and fit a match, so it is a trade-off between time and money. New ones probably cost $100 pair from GCC. They must be replaced together or they will be unbalanced.

I gave up on trying (not terribly hard) to find the right struts locally..
ones that would hold the cover open, yet still allow it to close.

I ended up putting a hook in the ceiling and using a bungee cord attached
to the handle. Haven't even thought about the struts since then

I bought my replacement struts at the RV supply store, they were $25.00 for the pair. Part #GSNI-5000-20 by JR Products. They were called Spring-lifts.

If you want to get the correct Strut here's a little tip.... Open your lid to fully open position then get a broom handle (stick or something) to prop the lid open then put the other end on a set of bathroom scales. The weight given should be the minimum weight lift for the strut but you shouldn't need to go any more than a few pounds heavier. Happy Shopping!.
