Tried a variation on a recent turning. This time I made the iridescent colors blend around the outside of the bowl rather then blend from top to bottom. Sycamore around 7" (18 cm) across. Outside finished with waterborne lacquer, inside with polyurethane.

Not to demean this in anyway...but it's looking like finger paint? Wow!! I like it, the natural inside looks great, sturdy bowl work, really fun colors!! Kinda wish it was in the 10" range...just 'cause I'm greedy!

I don't know about the design but I do have to agree I love the blended colors around the outside with the natual finish inside. I have a few bowls that are ready for finishing and that is one of the things a thought about doing, now I know it works and looks great.

That is cool Eric! I like the bold colors on the black and the glossy finish........great contrast with the natural color of the inside........lots of possibilities with this technique.

Thanks everyone.

This is part of an exploration of creating a contrast between natural wood surfaces and vivid colors. I've been tempted to actually finger paint, but have been using a synthetic #6 round brush. These colors only appear on a dark background with black being best. If I brush them on white paper, almost invisible, on black paper, vivid shimmery color.
