This Sycamore and Bubinga Vase is 17 inches tall and has a diameter of 13 inches. It has 27 rings with 24 segments per ring and a solid bottom for 649 individual pieces. It took 25 hours to construct.

Here it is with a one gallon jug of milk for size comparison.

There is something disturbing about this up against a gallon of milk!!! I don't know what...except it's just me. Beautiful monster Bill...25 hours is amazing!!

a lot of work & hrs invested here. Looks like good joints and a nice shape. since you asked what I think, I shall tell you! :-) I wonder about the red band about 1/3 down..for me it breaks the piece apart..if it were not there I believe the piece would flow better for the eye. It would flow right up to the top decoration. Just my personal opinion & worth what you paid for it!!! :-) thanks for sharing it, we see few segmetations, so it's a nice post.

Michelle, I think you are right; thanks for the input. Every time I finish something; I look back and think I should have done this... or ... I'll do that next time. In the original design for this one I had that band having two Bubinga rings separated by a Sycamore strip of the same height, making it a three-ring feature. The plan, also called for an eight-inch ring of Sycamore separating the top two rings. I even had the rings made up, but decided that was too much at the last moment. I hope that, with more experience, I'll be able to vision these things at the design stage rather than in hind site.

isn't it hard to have "forethought?" To be able to see the outcome? I have trouble with it too. You ain't alone!

Bill,
That is an extremely nice piece. The joinery is excellent, and the form very nice as well. I am astounded that you had only 25 hours in it. This is a winner, Bill.

Really nice looking vase Bill you may spend a lot of time cutting and gluing but the end product makes it all worth the time spent. Nice!
