My SOL is shingling his barn in white cedar shingles. Any recomendations on what to use for a clear finish/preservative? He would prefer something that can be dipped.
TIA

Lou,
If he hasn't done it yet...tell him to hold on. He needs to look into the factory finished product. I've seen and been told by many that trying to do it yourself is more costly...messy...and just not as good. Most, who use treated shingles, around here use cedar shingles with "Cabot Factory Finish" and rave about it.

But...I still think most around here still just use untreated shingles and plan on a redo in 30-35 years...like the south side of my house right now :( .

Glenn,

Living on the Cape, I tend to agree and like the natural weathered look. My SOL lives in Rockport, Ma which has the same type of look as coastal RI or Cape Cod. I feel as you do and have told him to slap em up and let them age.;)

"slap em up and let them age" Kind of like what's happen to me, eh?
