Hiya all,

I am try to engrave some photo images onto slate, but the engraving has no real detail with largeish areas of solid engraving. The image on-screen clearly has a lot more contrast and detail than the finished results. I am using a Trotec Speedy 500. I am using Corel Draw via Job Control. I prep my images in Corel by resampleing the image to the correct size 80mm x 80m and setting the resolution to 500dpi - the same as the laser engrave dpi. I first change the image to greyscale and then play with the contrast highligh, shadows and mid tones to get a nice contrasty image. I then turn this into a bitmap with the jarvis algorithm. My laser power is 6% and speed is 20%. I have checked for slate engraving in the forum archives but I haven't seen this issue.

Thanks in advance ^_^

Nige.

I can't help much, other than to say that 500 dpi, in my opinion, is WAY too high for stone. Try 250 or that area.

Hi Scott,

Thanks, I'll certainly try 250 and see what happens!
