240855My wife gave me a Delta 46-460 yesterday for my birthday!!!! It will be a good addition to my growing arsenal of lathes. Not too bad for a flat woodworker. This vortex is terrible. LOL!!! I think this smaller lathe will make turning pens and finials easier. Here's a picture for proof it happened.

What did you turn for your Birthday!? Given the wow factor of the gift...what did you make your wife for dinner!?

John,

That is a neat shop and a midi lathe is a good addition. I am interested in the bed extension on the Powermatic 3520. It looks like there is a drop bed height section and then a small section that you can move the tailstock off the main bed. Is there a post somewhere that describes what you have? I have the normal bed extension and move my tailstock out to end to avoiding removing, but am considering installing it in the drop position to turn a big platter/???? and your little section is a novel approach.

Thanks everyone.

Wes-- I can assure you my shop sees plenty of use. I just like to keep it somewhat clean. The new lathe meant I needed to clean up the turning corner.:D

Mike --The lathe has a plug. I only positioned it there for the photo, so I could get all three of my lathes in the picture. The Delta will be by the overhead door in spring and fall, and in front of a back window during summer and winter.

Thomas-- I made the riser block out of baltic birch ply laminated with 1/2" plate steel on top and bottom. If you need more info pm me.
