Hi everybody-

Any ideas on routing curved chair backs that curve in three dimensions? I've seen shaper setups that are basically shapers without a fence or table that might do something like this, but my fingers tingle each time I think about it.

Thanks!

I reckon a Williams and Hussey Moulder could do that in the blink of an eye.

I believe so. I don't own one personally. Google for some vids.

You could use a hand held router with a shop-made guide that references the curved outside edge, or a router table/shaper with a fence jig that would also reference the curved face.

The process for that chair wouldn't be much different than what's involved in making gooseneck moldings for period furniture.
