I am wondering if anyone has used these rollers (http://woodcraft.com/family.aspx?familyid=1885) on their bandsaw. It would appear to be an upgrade from cool blocks, but less elaborate than Carter guides.

Worth the money?

more details please. what do you have now and what are you trying to do. I have used both the carter guides and euro guides. they both have +/- to each one.

For re-sawing and general bandsaw use on a 14" BS.

Glen,

I made my own from router bit bearings and a small block of aluminum (at the time I work part time at a machine shop). I really liked them for resawing, but for most work I like the cool blocks better, because they are quiet. I know mine were subject to roller failure after a fairly short time of use. Whether this is the case with factory made rollers, I don't know.

From what I've read, not enough support for wider blades. I'm quite happy with my Hale cool blocks from Iturra.

Thanks for the added detail

I do not have experience with cool blocks, but have used euro guides with great results on my 24" laguna. I am now using carter type guides on my 36" bandsaw. They both work fine. Here are some samples of cherry I was playing with last night. Each one is .098 +/- .001 thick.

Harbor Freight has some roller guides that look very similar to these (for about $10.) I am always skeptical about HF, but I have wondered if these might be worthwhile.

Glen,

Pretty sure the bandrollers are from Iturra Design, 888-722-7078, no web address. Part number for the Delta 14" is 10001, $58.00 and the Jet/Imports 10002, $58.00.

I've had them for some 6 years and they work great. Louis Irurra is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to bandsaws and the likes, has a great catalog full of information and sales products from others such as Carter, Starrett and Lenox.

I use a long fence on my Agazzani, with a 1" carbide Lennox Tri-Master. Works fine for me. I have a new old bandsaw as well, and was thinking of making a shop made tall fence with grooves let in, and UHMW inserts in the grooves so I could push agianst it a bit as the wood passed the balde. This saw has a 25" resaw height, and is new to me, so I will experment a bit, but I think it will be hard to hold the board exactly vertical on a fence that is only about 4" tall.

Hi alan

new old saw? boy we would sure like to see some pictures of that big saw..

BTW

I made a mistake on my original post saying that my saw was using carter guides. Actually they are paddock guides and they really work very well. Take a look at the model 20 guides. They are about twice the size of the carter guides. They are pricey though @ over $400.00 per set.
