Heres a desert species that you may not see much of. Its not a common turning wood here either unless you have the right contacts.Dead Finish or Archidendropsis Basaltica is a desert timber from the Central Highlands of Queensland semi arid desert country. The name derives from a pidgin english description given to the early white settlers 'when this tree die, this country him dead finish'

7"x3.5" , 24 spirals and finished with WOP although I 'm thinking of building up the Wop and then buffing it back some.

The blanks was an odd shape hence the flatish form.

Wonderful spirals! The wood has great grain, and its interaction with the spirals works well.

Beauty Neil! Love the tapering spirals! Has the effect of staring into moving water! Very cool!

It's a real stunner, Neil. The wood looks stone hard helping to give the form such a crisp appearance.
