How Rough Before Gluing Veneer

Friends, on my cigar humidor project how rough do I need to get the Spanish Cedar before I veneer the paper-backed burled redwood veneer? I was thinking after it goes through the planer it might need to be roughed-up with 100 or 80 grit?

Unless the wood is "burnished" you don't have to rough up the surface before gluing.
