View Full Version : Aftermarket DSP Controlers??? Has anyone swapped the stock DSP out?

I was just wondering if anyone has done this with there Chinese laser?? I know that there are three main DSP controllers out there from FS Laser Retina 3d, Light Object DSP Controller and the Thunderlaser's DSP Controller?

I havent used Lasercut yet (time has not been on my side where my laser is concerned) but from what I can tell its going to come up short compared to the other lasers I have been using.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Phil

I pulled the Leetro 6515 out of my RedSail M900 and replaced it with the unit from Light Object. It works great. There are several advantages to the Light Object, but for me the Ethernet interface and the fact that I can run the LaserCad software on several computers and also talk to several Lasers with a single computer (because there is no dongle). I can use a laptop to control the laser in the shop or download a file from a computer in the office, makes no difference. It also works with Windows 7 without the drama.

I have changed controllers from Leetro to a RDLC320 to run different software.. requires a new motherboard and the LCD panel..$400.
Write down/screenshot/print all your old settings and then configure the new board.
You will most likely have to change some wiring and /or plugs ..but it's really not rocket science
Im not sure what you have , but if you have one of those chinese desktop hobby lasers that run moshidraw or the like , it's really not worth while spending more money on it , flog it and get a bigger/better machine..

I have a G.Weike 1200mmX900mm 90watt.. So its a larger machine that uses Lasercut 5.3

Can you tell me more about the RDLC320 Rodne? Does it have a direct print driver or any of the other bells and whistles? Im also going to look into the Light Objects package. I have pretty much decided based on all the bad reviews of FS laser that there is no way in hell Ill touch there stuff.

Thanks for all your input.

Phil , there are NO controllers for the chinese machinbes that run directly off Corel , even if they say they do. There is always a front end of sorts , we actually like it that way , but the problem is that it is not a WYSIWYG interface (IE no WYSIWYG from Corel)
The RDLC320 or that family of boards will run laserworks 6 etc , laserworks has some nice features (preview , job timing etc etc) , you need to decide whether you want to run laserworks over lasercut.

I would rather get a proven board than a work in progress. At the end of it all , you wont get an amazing improvement in workflow or machine speed/resolution with ANY of the boards , we only changed our 2 lasers cos when they were shipped they had the leetro boards , a few weeks after I got mine, Shenui changed the the RDLC320 and they sent us , free of charge , the boards and the lcd panels (3 of em) on the proviso we returned our old boards (cost me $40 postage)

So I guess the main thing I need to think about is whether Laserworks 6 is a more attractive option than Lasercut 5 at this point.. Although the light object does sound appealing for the Ethernet and no dongle.

has anyone worked with both laserworks and lasercut?

Thanks
Phil

Rodne, where does one find Laserworks 6? When did that get released? I'm still on a version of 5.

Thanks

I have a copy at work , I will upload it to a dropbox or file sharing site in the morning
Phil you can load the demo version to get feel. It works almost 99% as the
working version which needs a machine attached to enable some bits.
To get deep into the machine parameters use the vendor password of rd8888.
Make sure you keep a copy of your old machine parameters or back up the old version.

The only board I know of that supports Ethernet is the AWC-608B available through Light Object. The software used by this board is LaserCAD. It does not use a dongle.

That's awesome, thanks Rodne!

Rodne,

Does LW 6 work on the same drivers for LW5? I'd like to try upgrading to the new version but I don't see any new drivers in the download.

Thanks,
Mason
