Is brass actually engraveable?

Sorry for being dense - just new to this material.

I have a friend wanting some bullets engraved (military funeral honor guard salute, to give to family of deceased)

Or do I need an actual engraver?

I engrave those with my Newing Hall diamond drag machine. (actually what I engrave are bullet pens)

I think you can Cermark it but you need 50W+. I would go with mechanical engraving over laser, if possible.
