It looks great to me. And I love the idea of the tensioning interlock. But at 2.9k it is just too much IMHO.

Dave,

My first thoughts are though I like Powermatic Tools, and half of my shop is Powermatic, It looks like a nice band saw but I think I'd buy a Laguna 14 SUV and save myself about $1,300.

I have a hard time understanding what is their target market; for about the same money you can get a 16" Italian made bandsaw.

High price but I doubt any disappointment after a littlesticker shock has worn off.

That and a 3520B for $5k would be a nice thing! Looks like a really nice saw.

Lots of interesting developments and I love to see the market driven to improve. It does seem to be a bit optimistically priced though; even with the usual gouging for the mustard paint.

There's a lot of woodworkers out there less informed than those that frequent this forum.:)

I saw the price and couldn't believe it. That's crazy pricey for only 15". Not sure what they claim the big advantage is over everything else, to try to get 3k for it.

that's got to be their target market. who else would be foolish enough to pay $2900 for a glorified 14" bs with some fancy electronics that do nothing to improve the saw's cutting performance. uninformed tool snobs who believe spending more money always gets them a better tool.

There was no comment regarding resawing and flex. Isn't a new MM16 in that price category? I know which one I'd buy!

I was considering the larger PM 1800. It had been on the market for about a year. I'm an old, frugal, former pro woodworker. I'm also at a time in life when I'll pay more to get innovation and quality.

Powermatic didn't get my bandsaw money, because no dealer within 300 miles had one for me to see. There were no reviews online other than by a magazine, so I don't think many got sold.

It looks like they are selling the PM 1500 as a compact version of the PM 1800. That might work if the PM 1800 was huge hit.

Another thread about bandsaws got me to thinking about this old thread and thought I would bump back to the top.

Any additional thoughts about this saw since it was introduced?
I know some above say it is over priced compared to other saws. I have never seen an Italian saw in person but saw the Powermatic at a local dealer. The 15" and 18" Powermatic saws look to be extremely well built.

You can get TWO Grizzly BSs for ONE PM and you could each one set up with different blades. The PM looks good but price/value is what I have to go for...........Until I win the Power Ball next week!

I had posted on another thread that there weren't many small resaw machines to choose from. The PM should likely be added to the list. If you are building a stout saw there isn't much cost savings in making it smaller so if heavy the price becomes understandable. Of course, 3K buys you lots of choices and just about any used saw regardless of size. Dave

It looks like the PM 1800. That band saw has a short power cord but good build. The price seems
pretty legit and that unit is actually on sale now. Good band saw + great blades ; you should
have that.

On "sale" for a scant $2,830. As others have mentioned, I cannot imagine anyone dropping that much on a 15" saw without looking at looking at the alternatives from MiniMax, Felder, Laguna, Grizzly, et al.

That makes sense. The price is just so pretty high and better to check with the alternatives.

Which 16 did you have?? That money is LT16HD money not 3000 series money.

A variation of the field of dreams is in order.

If you build it (and ask for $3k) they won't buy.

I have no clue what they're thinking, but then again, if you've gone to IWF in the last few years and looked at a lot of what powermatic is offering, you'll be left with the same thoughts (like "doesn't that seem like a more appropriate price for something made in the united states or western europe?")

As a friend of mine used to say when he would try to sell stuff for ridiculous prices, if you don't ask for it, you won't get it.

That was one of the saws I saw at IWF and I was sure after looking at the price tag that I'd find "made in USA on the back".

I didn't.

It looked like an odd duck at a show that was loaded with quality gear from eastern and western europe.

Yes it is. It's called the S400P but is the same saw according to Erik.
