Hi all,

I turned this small vase as a housewarming gift for a friend. It's a honey locust end-grain crotch piece, turned damp from start to finish in one go ( actually 2 evenings, but most of the turning last night). Sanded to 320, sealed with shellac, sanded to 600 and finished with WTF. still needs a good buffing, but I couldn't resist posting it tonight :)

The opening is a little over 3"in diameter, height is 5".

C&C always appreciated,

lee

That honey locust is a really nice looking wood! You done a great little vase there and I really like it with that void in the middle. Great job!

If I might make one suggestion, tie a cord around the neck of it. Fill it with (chocolate) gold coins. That's a money-bag if I ever saw one! Nice work on that.

Nice looking little vase. Void really makes it.

I'm sure your friend will be pleased with it. It's a nice little vase, did you hollow it with a gouge?

No, I'm a bit heavy-handed on the old grinder and ground my bowl gouge past the hardened area - saving up for a new one :)
.
This was hollowed using a combination of oland tool and carbide tool, then round nose scraper for clean up.

Thanks :)

Nice piece and interesting use of the crotch.
