View Full Version : Minimum depth for a miter saw stand/station?

So I've lost the previous spot that miter lived (And I don't care one bit. It was replaced my daughter's new workbench). The place it only really fits now my shop hallway, but the giant stand it's on is entirely too large and blocks almost half of the walking room.

The saw would fit on a surface as small as 16" deep, but that sounds like a tipping hazard to me. Has anyone tried such a thing? How shallow have you gotten away with?

My miter saw stands are 16" deep and work fine for me. My brother in-law uses a 2x12. He clamps the saw to it and hasn't had a problem either. I have 2 16" stands, 1 for my 8-1/2" Hitachi slide saw and 1 for my 12" DeWalt (non-slider). Of course with the Hitachi a lot of the saw hangs off the back, so it takes up more than 16".
Hope this helps
Paul

Indeed it does. Do the legs of your stand splay out at all? I'm worried about tripping.

Yes, I have my stands screwed to a saw horse, and the legs are splayed. here's the saw horse: http://www.amazon.com/Fulton-Corporation-Qp4236-12-Accessories-Stationary/dp/B0009XXDIE/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1345165899&sr=1-1&keywords=stablemate+sawhorse
Works great and easily breaks down for transport. I can take some pics tomorrow if you want.
