This is a piece of figured ash (fiddleback?, I can't keep the types straight) from Mike Cruz. Mike had neighbor who was gonna trash this ash. Mike got to it before it was gone and wanted to show the guy what can be made out of what he almost burned/dumped. A couple months ago, he posted a thread giving it away to anyone who would do it some justice.
Here's half of the larger of pieces you sent Mike, thanks. I've got a more open form for the other piece when it dries. The finish is transfast dyes, then WOP and followed by triple buff. The opening was pretty small to start with (3/4", but I decided to add this little blackwood collar piece. I think it works pretty well with the black base coat of dye. This piece has some killer chatoyance, really cool. About 4.5" tall and 3" diam.

That form looks better than Jane Mansfield's. Beautiful color and the black collar tops it all off. Oh ya, not a bad piece of wood either.

Thanks guys. The dyes are water based aniline dyes, applied in Joe Landon's fashion. Black, followed by green, then yellow in this piece.

I really like the color, Tim! You really made the curl pop on this. My neighbor may never burn curly wood again. ;)
