I bought this from an IRS auction and it just arrived today. I haven't seen this exact type of fence before, so I thought that I would post it up to see if anyone knew what shaper it may have been on originally. Or maybe Hermetic makes aftermarket stuff? Anyway, the fence has 11 moveable sections per side, with thin one bottom section that pivots over from right to left. There are a pair of set screws in the top of each side to lock the sliding bits into place. I took a chance on it as a lower cost Aigner type. It is not quite to that level, but is still nice and tight, and very fast and easy to adjust.

I've never seen one but it looks pretty nice. Does it allow the fingers to get closer to the spindle than the Aigner so you can use smaller diameter cutters? Dave

Congratulations...very nice fence. I love the concept. Reminds me of those 'pin impression' pads that you find in Sharper Image or a toy store, the ones that you stick your hand (or face, etc) on and it makes a relief impression. If it doesn't work out for you for any reason, let me know, my shaper's birthday's coming up and I'm stuck for ideas for his present.

I keep looking at Aigners, but lately I decided that there is no way I am paying that much money for what little is there. I can buy a good used Bridgeport and build my own for less money.

Nice find, I kind of stopped watching IRS the last month or so, shucks.....

Sweet looking fence JR, I'd like to see a couple photos of it setup on a machine. Would be nice to know where its made and what it sells for. I'm with Larry, I'd love to have an Aigner but for the price I cant justify one.

Awesome fence, can you share what you snagged it for?

After fees and shipping, including the wire transfer fee that I keep forgetting about when I bid on this stuff, it was about $260. Not a huge bargain, but easily worth it compared to other high end fences.

Wow, what a find. I see "Made in Italy" on it. This is a new one to me. Congrats on the acquisition!

I think that qualifies as a huge bargain. Shaper fences are almost impossible to find. Dave

Looks like a nice fence, I'd love to hear your impressions once you put it into service. I can't find anything about that manufacturer on the web, most curious.

My Aigner fence was a $1500 upgrade on the Felder. $200 looks pretty good to me

Good job guys. Badger Pond helped get my business started back in 2000 or so. I'm glad that this forum has been so well-used since then.

I saw that on there and was very tempted, would have been quite the upgrade over the plywood faces on my minimax fence.

I don't know if it is the same fence but the Barke company had these on display at Fensterbau.
http://www.barke.de/web-content/eng/securomatEN.html

They said it was Italian made. There is a link for pricing on their web page. Less than the Aigner, not as many features but easier to close off around the cutter when the whole edge of the work is machined.

I have seen them in a picture on the Italian Tecnica F700I/N series spindle moulder/shaper. I believe those are Hermetic plates anyway in the picture - lower left. Let me know if you sell them ;)

I got a couple fences that are similar when I bought my Delta 1 1/2 HP shapers. I think they are from the 1990's. They have fiberglass fingers that slide, rather than aluminum, and they operate pretty much like the Hermatic. The quality is much poorer though. I don't use them because I can never keep them parallel, so I simply built router style fences for the shapers. In this case it was 'good idea/poor execution'.

JR,

What keeps the sliding fingers from sliding? Do they lock down once you position them? If so... individually, or all together?

Take a look at this shop built (Aigners style) fence.
