This seems to be a little...ambitious... Not sure how he spent so much on pine, and why it took him 5 days to complete, but... $700?

Hi there! I'm a student at Towson that enjoys woodworking whenever I have the time. I just started this summer and the first piece I made was a simple solid pine dining room table. It's 8' long and a little more than 3' wide, and about 29'' tall so that it can fit through any standard doorway. I spent about 275 on materials, and spent the 5 days of my last spring break making the piece. It looks very restoration hardware-y, which is what I was going for. If you're interested, shoot me an email and I'll get back to you. I'm gonna include the pictures from the building process, but can also send you some current ones too if you'd like. The only reason I'd like to sell it is because I have a pretty small apartment for an 8' table and, as a college student, could use the money.
Thanks for looking!
-Thomas

$275 on materials? He used 2x4s for the base. He didn't even bother to cut off the blue markings on the ends! I think I could have built that in an evening other than the finishing.

If someone pays $700 I have a few acres of swamp land for sale.

I think it's a replica of the table Jed Clampett used before he moved to Beverly Hills.

At least Jed's table would have historical significance.........LOL..............Rod.

That's a nice piece of work. Thanks for posting the link and the pictures.
edit -- The finish looks sweet too! Good work.

I think the period was broken on his keyboard. The decimal points are missing in the prices!

Do you think he would take $650 for it....

I love that one board third from the right, real rustic look.

Hmm..... Maybe they should rethink cancelling industrial arts classes, woodshop, metal shop, in public schools.
On the positive side it looks fundamentally square. At least for now.

Bill
I have a much nicer, and bigger, 2x4 bench. For $650.00 it's yours. Local pickup only.:D

I think the signature line explains a lot "I drink therefore I am". My personal favorite was the picture of the chair pushed in when the table was still topless. I am assuming it was for reference so we would know what this piece is used for...or perhaps that was where he was doing his drinking lol!

Overall, I think he missed the mark. And unless severe sag is the desired aesthetic, that eight foot span needs to be supported by more than two 2x4's.

Colleen, that signature at the bottom is from the OP of this forum not the person who post the CL ad.

Hehe, thanks for pointing that out to Colleen, Tony...

Yeah, that is MY sig line, Colleen. :o Just to explain, it has a double meaning for me: I got my degree in Philosophy, and I do like to partake... ; and I am a huge Monty Python fan, and that is a song there is a song they sing abou Philosophers, in which, they say about Descartes, "And Rene Descartes is a drunken f@rt , I drink therefor I am!" :)

That's not the same guy that's trying to sell his $200 lathe for $1200 is it?
:D

He over paid for the materials. The #3 grade pine that is available around here looks better than what he has, though it may have a few more knots.
