SWMBO wants to remove a hinged door to a bedroom and replace it with a surface-mount sliding door. I'd love to install a pocket door but way too much trouble at this point.

I picked up a 3-0 X 6-8, 6 panel, molded door at the BORG today for $19, exactly like the one I'm replacing. Ordered a surface mount hardware kit from Johnson Hardware at their online site. Looks to be what she wants. (Lord, I hope it is!)

Anything I need to be particularly aware of before I attempt this installation?

Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions.

Joe

Mods....should I have posted this in General Woodworking and Power Tools? Please move if you think so.

Tell her it took 3X as long as it actually did.

I installed some "barn doors" in my basement. The two main things I learned were to make sure there are voids on the top so that the adjustment screws on the rollers have plenty of travel. The other is that you have to account for the molding at the bottom when setting the rail.

Thanks Ben. I'm still waiting for the hardware to arrive, so I'll pay particular attention to those things when it gets here.
