So a while ago I was pondering what to do as a fancier Beads of Courage box, to take to SWAT. I don't know why this jumped in my head, but it did. I scetched it out on a scrap piece of paper and kept it in the shop for a month before starting. This piece took a lot of hours, between turning, a little bit of carving, a little pyro work, 3 different stain/finishes to achieve the desired look and a LOT of test fitting to get the roof to go over the chimney. So YES the lid is partially held in place through a hole that the chimney goes through.

The base was treated with tung oil and buffed, the roof was "white washed and sealed in with lacquer, then buffed. The chimney, door and window were stained.

Sycamore body, roof and chimney. Maple for the door and window. Elm twigs for the firewood! :)

It was all a labor of love and I sure hope a child with the horrible beast of cancer is able to achieve a smile when they receive it to place their beads.

7 1/2" x 5 1/2" (top for roof)

It's still early enough for folks to make a Beads of Courage pot / box for this wonderful cause.

Comment away.....
